Sophia Gilmson Pianist & Pedagogue

Sophia Gilmson, a Russian/American pianist and pedagogue, graduated cum laude from the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Conservatory where she studied with Vitaly Margulis.

She has performed extensively in the USA, Europe, and Russia; presented workshops and master classes nationally and internationally. She is a recipient of numerous awards including the First Prize at the New York Young Artists in Recital Competition, Mount Everest from the Austin Critics Table, Silver medal from the Global Music for her unique recording of Goldberg Variations on harpsichord and piano, and an array of teaching excellence awards including Texas Collegiate Teacher of the Year.

Her students won major awards on national and international levels. Sophia has served on the faculty of the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas for twenty seven years.
